MANITOOK LAKE ASSOCIATION
BOARD MEETING MINUTES
NOVEMBER 8, 2007
(MSC = Motion; seconded; carries unanimously, unless otherwise noted)
Members present: Dick Sonderegger, Lance Bushey, Elaine Thoms, Jim Moloney (Weed Committee Chair), Karen Suponski
Call to order 7:30pm
OLD BUSINESS
- Elaine reported that the two street signs have been set in concrete.
- Treasurer’s report presented. Current balance $9045.57. Waiting for the plowing bill (estimated at $1600).
- Lower road mailbox – the Postmistress states she has ordered the keys, which should come in in two weeks. The carrier would like to delegate the placement of residents to the boxes.
- Beach report – the float has been brought in. Sign material has been purchased and is being painted.
- Weed committee report - Jim reported that the biologist, Mark Balaud, came out and did his field survey of the lake. Highlights:
- Overall, the lake is healthy, but the millfoil is taking over.
- Herbicide “24D” is commonly used for treatment.
- Raking, dredging, or water draw-down is not recommended as the millfoil has the opportunity to multiply more.
- Possible to treat the lake in stages (do upstream area first).
- When the report is received, a presentation will be scheduled.
- Jim suggested contacting the property owners/channel property owners/interested parties via letter with details/copy of the report.
- Jim created a new Yahoo group; asking for feedback on the site. Invite interested people to the presentation, which should be scheduled after the holidays.
- Waiting for $750 invoice.
- Weed Committee is still discussing the pros and cons of creating a non-profit to administer the lake cleanup (paperwork and annual reporting can be daunting).
- Jim said to go on www.yahoo.com > click “groups” > type Manitook in the search index > look for “Friends of Manitook”
Next board meeting scheduled for January 2008.
MSC to adjourn meeting 7:55pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Suponski, Secretary
