§        Jim Moloney presented an update on Friends of MLA. Organization soon to become incorporated as a nonprofit. Interim board consists of Jim Moloney, Allison Laudati, Linda Knorr, Patrick Flanigan. They are scheduling September 1st as their first annual meeting. Their mailing address is: PO Box 838, Granby, CT 06035. Will hold a membership drive; asking for membership fees at $10 individual/$25 corporate. Looking for other fundraising ideas. Murphy, Laudati, and Keil assisting with legal work.

§        Road report presented. Rich Thoms was commended for a fine job keeping the roadways in good condition.

OLD BUSINESS

§        Discussion re outsiders wanting to join association for beach rights. (Some inquiries have come in by people who would only join weed effort if they could gain beach access.) General consensus is that it would not be a good idea.

The Laudati/Camp Manitook property is the last remaining property on the street that is not a part of the association. MSC to grant a one-time exception to allow #70 Lakeside Dr as a full voting member of Manitook Lake Association because it shares the common roadway, beginning with the 2008/2009 year.

NEW BUSINESS

§        Election of Officers - MSC

President – Dick Sonderegger

Vice President – Mark Wilson

Treasurer – Sue Nilsen

Secretary – Karen Suponski

Road – Steven Walczewski

Feeder Brook – Lance Bushey & Linda Knorr co-chairs

Beach – Elaine Thoms

§        Budget – 2008/2009 budget was presented in the Treasurer’s report.

§        Lake Quality liaison (informal) – have Linda Knorr act as liaison between Friends of MLA to the Board (creating a formal committee would mean an amendment to the by-laws). Also, the Friends of ML would like to invite the President of Manitook Lake Assoc and a rep from the Salmon Brook Watershed to attend their meetings.

§        08/09 budget year should be slightly positive due to the 2K one-time donation from MLA to the Friends of ML.

§        Revaluation of the beach property this year went down, due to Sue Nilsen’s efforts. She met with the town assessor and got what was originally an increase turned around to a decrease

§        Setting of dues: MSC to keep the dues set at $185.

§        Discussion regarding purchase of new mailbox for the upper road. After reviewing budget, it was recommended to wait until next year.

§        Discussion re south end of West Lakeview Rd erosion/grading situation (from Follett driveway to back of Meile property). Access was opened up recently by grading the old roadbed (without Board discussion). Discussion ensued on the following points:

§        Whether to keep it open; cost and liability to maintain it.

§        Requires extra funds to bring it up to standard

§        Erosion problems

§        Additional insurance and plowing dollars needed

§        Emergency vehicle access?

§        Keep open for through traffic?

§        MSC to allow the affected members (whose properties border the old roadway) to meet and discuss the situation and then report back to the Board with a recommendation.

§        Question raised about the softness of the soil in the boat launch area. Stone was dumped there last year…will wait one more year to dump more.

§        MSC to adjourn meeting 7:50pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Karen Suponski, Secretary
